The Benefits of A Regular Workout Schedule

Consistency is the key. When we stick to a regular routine we develop habits. We develop habits in eating. Our bodies develop habits. Our metabolism even develops habits. We even have other gym members who we come to know in the gym as our gym family. There are several benefits in and out of the gym when we develop a habitual workout schedule....

For many of us, it's wake up, workout, go to work. For others it's a workout session after working all day. Regardless of the format, we get a session in at some point in the day at the gym or home. Normally a home session-self trained- consists of a great workout video that keeps you motivated for 30 to 45 minutes. This is a good time to either get energized for work or a good time to wind down after a stressful day at work. Day in and day out you do conduct the same workout schedule thus a routine develops. The benefits of this routine are plenty. Lets see:

  • The exertion of energy will help you sleep better.
    • “Increasingly, the scientific evidence is encouraging as regular physical activity may serve as a non-pharmaceutical alternative to improve sleep" (Sleep Foundation, 2016).
  • You are in your comfortable surrounds which makes it easier to be yourself.
    • So you don't have to wear fancy gym gear.
    • You can be free to try workouts that you think may embarrass you.
  • No need to wait on someone to finish using a machine when you are working out at home.
    • The convenience of working at your own pace is all yours. And guess what? You don't have to wait on the shower!!
Rather you workout at home or at the gym you develop a routine. But there is something about working out at the gym. When you go to the gym at the same time every day, you get to know a certain group of individuals who come at the same time as you. Inevitably you develop a relationship; be it just saying "hi" in passing or working out with each other. There are many great benefits to this. Let's see:

  • Accountability.
    • Having someone there to hold you accountable is a good idea. At times when you just don't feel like working out, you remember your gym fam will be there.
  • Motivation
  • From the left, Vince, "O," Me, Danello, and Big Dogg. GYM FAM
    • Having someone at the gym to say to you "looking good big dog" gives you that extra push to go a little harder.
  • Community
    • Here's where the "gym family" fits into the picture-that group of guys who you have watched make gains. That group of guys who give you a hard time for not showing up for a day. If you have been missing in action for more than normal, they start to worry. That is your gym fam. They keep you paying your membership. They keep you honest. They motivate you. They spot you when they see you're lifting a little heavier than usual. The only question asked is: How many are we getting?
I have given you some benefits of a home fitness schedule and a gym fitness schedule. Either way you go has its own benefits. I personally am a gym fitness guy. The ambiance of the gym atmosphere alone is enough to motivate me to push myself even on my worst days. But when my gym family is there, it's a whole other level of motivation. Big shout out to my gym fam! Alexis and Adrien keep up the good work. Anna, we haven't seen you lately. Tighten up. Big shout out to all who make fitness a part of their weekly routine. Good job!

As always, thank you for your time and for putting your health first.
