This is a problem that plagues women and men as well, the dreaded muffin top. It seems no matter what you do you can't seem to shrink the sides of your stomach. You have tried a multitude of different stomach exercises but the muffin top persists. Consider this....
There are several workouts we do that actually target the abs more than traditional abdominal workouts. I'll say it like this; whenever you workout and you have to stabilize your body, you are working your core. With that said, I'm sure you can imagine some of the exercises you can do now, but before we get there lets go over some key points.
- If you have an excess amount of fat covering your abs (subcutaneous fat), there's a 99.9 percent chance your abs will not reveal their natural beauty. You have to lose the fat. Burn calories. Make your stomach sweat by wrapping it with a sweat band. If you're on a budget wear a plastic bag around your stomach. There's always a way if you're motivated enough to get the results safely. It's similar to putting a roast in the oven after placing it in the cooking bag. It comes out nice and lean. Sure it may take up to three months depending on your workout frequency but you'll get there if you keep going. Lose that fat.
- As opposed to subcutaneous fat, there's visceral fat. This is the fat that covers your arteries which can lead to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and it also bulges your abs. So you must get rid of this type of fat too. Do it for your abs but mainly for your health. What good is having nice abs that only hospital staff will see, if you catch my drift?
- Now that we've covered the two types of fat that is cheating your and, lets talk about how to make them pop! There is absolutely nothing wrong with the basic ab workouts like crunches and sit-ups. They've worked for years and the basics are the foundation for nice abs. I want you to have a strong CORE though. Research has taught us that the basics are just that- basic. There is a variety of exercises like mountain- climbers and planks that, when done properly, can strengthen your entire core. Take that abs! Remember, exercises in which you have to stabilize your body induct your entire core.
- There are targeted exercises strictly for obliques or love-handles like side planks and side crunches but focusing on the core will hit the abdominal region, obliques, and back. This will tighten those love-handles and strengthen your entire core.
"Let's talk about [food] baby. Let's talk about [what you eat]. Let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that [you eat]" (Salt-N-Pepa, 1991). This is the perfect rendition of a classic song with a twist. In my opinion, food plays the most vital role in
getting rid of your love-handles. Why? What you eat has carbohydrates, fats, and protein-macronutrients. If you do not eat the right balance of macros, the excess calories will be stored as fat in places you do not want, hence love-handles.
That why weight loss is important. It's not as simple as weight loss but weight loss of fat. Get rid of it and you get rid of your love-handles. I will go as far as saying focus on your core and your overall health will improve. Frankly I've never seen anyone with abs like Terry Crews and a body like Paul Blart! It just doesn't happen. So by focusing on your core or getting rid of the love-handles, with the multitude of exercises involved, the healthy food it takes to keep your body burning fat, not to mention cardio; yes, your overall health will improve, you will burn excess fat, and your love-handle problem will be no more.

As always, thank you for your time and for putting your health first.
